THE FAMILY  WORKSHOP

There is a 'knead for change' so let's start making a difference in our own lives and communities by learning to bake real bread together.

IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR ME?

These half-day workshops are designed to bring families together to learn to make and bake bread. No prior experience is needed. Suitable for children aged five years and older (with at least one parent or guardian participating). Children 12 years and older can participate without a parent or guardian.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Families will make loaves of whole wheat bread from organic grain that you will grind yourself in our mill (this is very safe). You will also make basic versatile dough that will be used to craft rolls, plaited buns and a pizza base. We will turn that pizza base into a delicious lunch, baked right here in the Black Island Bakery studio.

OUR APPROACH

We take a tactile approach in this workshop, with hands in flour and water from the start. Children and parents will team up to mix their dough and do their baking. The idea is to have fun and enjoy the excitement and magic of creating delicious food from simple ingredients that you can do again at home.

FEES

This workshop runs from 9am–1pm on Saturday, and costs $85 per family member. This is the total fee and there are no additional costs. This fee includes:

  • Instruction by Bruce who leads the workshop

  • Mid-morning refreshments and pizza lunch (all homemade)

  • Two dough scrapers per family

  • All the ingredients and you take home the bread that you bake

Bring your own apron and notebook.
